The #1 Performance-Enhancing “Drug” That’s 100% Free 🌙
Last week, I went on a family vacation to Cabo, Mexico.
We stayed in an Airbnb with a private chef—no cooking, no errands, no work, no to-do lists. Just the pool, the beach, and time with my 2-year-old nephew ❤️. It was one of those rare weeks where life slows down enough that you can fully step away from responsibilities.
And here’s what surprised me most: with all that free time, I didn’t crave adventure. I craved rest.
I slept at least eight hours every night… and then still took a two-hour nap every afternoon. 😴 Running around with a 2-year-old is no joke!
At first, I thought: Really? This is what my body wants on vacation? Not exploring, not activities, not doing all the things—but sleep?
But the more I thought about it, the more it made sense.
Sleep: The Super Drug We All Overlook
We act like sleep is optional—or the first thing to cut when life gets busy. But in reality, sleep is the closest thing we have to a super drug. It boosts nearly every aspect of life and performance, without side effects.
Sleep strengthens our:
Health and immunity 🛡️
Judgment and decision-making
Emotional regulation
Productivity and focus
Creativity and problem-solving
Stress management
Even how we show up for the people around us
Skip it, and the impact is immediate: foggy thinking, poor choices, lower energy. Protect it, and the impact is transformative.
The Sleep Commitment
That week in Cabo reminded me: sleep isn’t just rest, it’s a powerful reset.
Since then, I’ve become even more zealous about protecting it. I now guard my sleep the way I guard my most important priorities—because it is one. For me, that means at least eight hours every night, no excuses.
When I protect my sleep, I’m sharper, calmer, more creative, and more present—for my work, my health, and the people I love.
Your Turn
Here’s my invitation to you:
Take a look at your schedule this week and ask yourself honestly—are you treating sleep like a luxury, or like the super drug it really is?
👉 What’s one tip or routine you use to make sure you get the rest you need? I’d love to hear it.
P.S. By the way—consider this your reminder to book your next vacation this weekend. 😉
